IO Link-The road to smart maintenance & cost saving cabling

Learning Outcomes

Participants will learn how to program the PLC using IEC61131-3 standard and interface with the IO Link Master using the Ethercat protocol to retrieve the sensor status and control the actuators.
They will also learn how to program the HMI to do graphical display of the sensor status and even learn to control the actuators with a click of a button.

Lesson Plan

Introduction to IO Link Technology (2 hrs)
  • Difference between traditional sensors/actuators vs IO Link Sensors/actuators
  • Configuration of IO Link devices on PLC
Communication between the PLC and IO Link Master (4 hrs)
  • Setup the communication interface between the PLC and IO Link Master
  • Learn to retrieve the data from the different types of IO Link sensors and control the actuators
Introduction to HMI programming to interface with the PLC and IO Link Master (4 hrs)
  • Basics of HMI Programming i.e creating I/O controls and etc and learn to interface with the PLCand IO Link Master
  •  Learn how to create the necessary control of the IO Link actuators and display of IO Link sensor values (Process Data) using the HMI

A Certificate of Performance will be awarded to participants who achieve at least 75% attendance and pass all required assessment(s).


A Certificate of Participation will be awarded to participants who meet the 75% attendance requirement but did not pass all required assessment(s).

Applicants should preferably have a basic logic circuit knowledge in electrical engineering
