Patient nutritional intake has been a commonly discussed topic where patient care and management are concerned. Undernutrition and overindulgence will lead to malnutrition and it will have a significant effect on patients who are recovering from their illnesses, such as extended hospitalization and or being institutionalized because of their nutritional vulnerability. The healthcare support staff are at the forefront of patient care, providing the required nutrition training will have beneficial impacts on these patients.

The entire course is designed to equip and update the healthcare support with the knowledge, and skills in nutrition to enable them to make a positive impact on the patient nutritional intake. The course is scaffolded into two parts.

- Describe the factors affecting nutrition; and
- Explain the six (6) key nutrients.
